The Ratzinger family is a German family from Bavaria, whose most prominent member is Pope Benedict XVI (né Joseph Ratzinger). Other prominent family members include the pope's brother, Monsignor Georg Ratzinger, a noted conductor of the Regensburger Domspatzen. Their great uncle was the Catholic priest and politician Georg Ratzinger. The Pope's parents were Bavarian police officer Joseph Ratzinger, Sr. and Maria Ratzinger née Peintner. Maria's family came from South Tyrol, as her mother was was born in Natz-Schabs in modern Italy.
