Raoul III of Valois

Raoul III of Valois, (c.1015 - 1074), count of Valois, Vexin, vitry, Bar-sur-Aube, Amiens and Crépy. He was also called "Ralph III" and was sometimes referred to as "Raoul II". He was the eldest son of Raoul II, Count of Valois, and Alix of Breteuil.
Whilst on pilgrimage to Rome, Raoul met his recently widowed cousin, Adele, daughter of Count Nocher III of Bar-sur-Aube, and having secured a promise of marriage continued on to Rome. Upon his return he found that Adele's vassals, fearing his authority, had attempted to marry her to Renard, Count of Joigny.
Raoul immediately begins pillaging Joigny's county until Adele is returned to him. They marry and have four children:

*Simon, Count of Amiens, d.1080
*Elisabeth, marries Barthélemy, Lord of Broyes and Beaufort
