Ralph Lester Shaw, (born 1926, Cold Lake, Alberta) is a Canadian retired school principal, active fisherman and conservationist. Shaw lives in Courtenay, British Columbia. He has been a fisherman since he was about 6 years old. He is keenly interested in the environment and was made a member of the Order of Canada in 1984 for his devotion to aquatic habitat preservation. He established the McQueen Lake Environmental Study Centre which offers educational programs for students within a well maintained natural surrounding. Shaw was also awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002 and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012. Shaw continues to be active as an advocate for the environment by publishing a weekly column pertaining to fishing and the outdoors in a Comox Valley newspaper. He has also co-authored a book, The Pleasure of His Company: The Fishing Diaries of Jack Shaw [http://books.google.ca/books?idEacjQwAACAAJ&dqpleasure+of+his+company&hlen&saX&eiE6qZT_65AaariQLzjbnvDw&redir_escy], which compiles the fishing diaries of a great friend of the author.
