Rally Software, founded in 2001, offers cloud computing-based solutions for managing Agile software development. The company’s offerings include Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) and Project Portfolio Management (PPM) platform and products, Agile consulting services, courses through Agile University and training courses focused on Agile and Lean practices. Rally Software is headquartered in Boulder, Colorado, with offices in Denver, Colorado; Raleigh, North Carolina; Kirkland, Washington; London, England; Amsterdam, Netherlands; and Melbourne, Australia.
In 2013, Rally Software opened its first international R&D facility, based in Helsinki, Finland.
In February 2013, the company acquired Flowdock, a social collaboration hub for teams which features a shared inbox with group chat.
In August 2012, the company acquired Agile Advantage, a product and services company that helps organizations maximize the financial return of Agile software development projects.
In April 2010, the company acquired AgileZen, creators of an online project collaboration Kanban board, a concept related to Lean practices that limit work in progress, eliminate waste, amplify learning and encourage a pull-system approach.
In January 2009, the company acquired 6th Sense Analytics, provider of on-demand automated metrics collection and analysis for development organizations.
Agile and Lean Practices
Rally Software teaches and supports Agile management practices that were originally defined in the Agile Manifesto, as well as Lean software development principles. The Agile Manifesto focuses on the following main points:

:Customer collaboration over contract negotiation
:Responding to change over following a plan
The Rally platform includes modules for project management, requirements management, reporting, time tracking, idea management, quality management and portfolio management. It also contains an app catalog and connectors with other tools.
Rally Software has 23 Agile coaches, including 6 Certified Scrum Trainers, certified through the Scrum Alliance.
Scaled Agile Framework
The Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) is a method to implement Agile practices at scale. SAFe uses the principles of lean thinking and product development flow to execute coordinated software releases across an enterprise. The concept was popularized by Dean Leffingwell, who has authored two books on the subject. Rally Software offers courses in SAFe training and certification through its Agile University.
Agile University
Agile University offers courses in project management, scrum and lean methods, collaboration, Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and Agile Certified Scrum Master (CSM) and Agile Certified Product Owner (CSPO) certifications.
Funding
On June 7, 2011, Rally Software announced that it has raised $20 million in funding led by Meritech Capital Partners. The funding will be used for growth and to accelerate adoption of Rally Software’s platform for Agile development.
On April 12, 2013, Rally Software opened for trading on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the ticker symbol “RALY” after its initial public offering. Rally Software priced its 6 million shares at $14, raising $84 million at a valuation of $315 million.
Sustainability
A primary company objective is zero carbon footprint IT. They are trying to benchmark waste per employee and drive this number down toward zero, citing Interface, Inc. as inspiration. They plan to share their methods with others in the industry.
Rally Software was certified as a B Corporation in May 2010 and re-certified July 2012.
