Raka dey

Birth & Early life:
Mrs Raka dey was born on 2nd may, 1926. She was born at mymensigh, the then district- place of east Bengal at the house of her maternal grandfather, Mr. Birendera kishore tarafdar who was a learned zamindar of mymensigh. After the partition, in 1947, Mrs. dey’s father, Mr. R. N. Roy, a rly guard was transferred to Raipur from Dhaka. After one year her grandfather along with his family shifted to lucknow & brought her back to live with them since Raipur was a very backward place at that time. Mrs dey’s parents, whole heartedly gave away their eldest child to her grandfather to make her educated & cultured in all respects. She was five years old that time & when she came back to her parents she was eleven years old. During these six years she learnt good English & Sanskrit from her learned grandfather. She had also learnt bharatnatyam dance from her acharya Sharma all these years, though she could not complete the course as she broke her hand in an accident at her school.
Education:
By the time she came back to Raipur, it had become good centre of learning. She did her schooling from a girl’s mission school, namely Salem school. Mrs. Roy, mother of Mrs. Raka, was a learned in ravindra sangeet & dance so, she started teaching the same to her at home only. Also a teacher was appointed to teach her kathak dance.
She did her secondary education, securing first class & distinction in social-studies. After this she did her ARTS graduation from Durga Arts College, Raipur. From the same college she has done her post graduation in English and married her class fellow, Mr. Ashish dey who was equally brilliant. In 1966 both of them became post-graduates.
Personal life:
In 1968, their parents bound them in wedding lock. Both of them got lectureship in Gondia, Maharashtra. They served there for almost 37 years and came back to Raipur. Meanwhile Mr. Dey became the principal of two colleges at Gondia & bhandara, and the Dean of faculty at Nagpur University. They were blessed with one daughter in 1969, namely moushami and a son, namely siddharth dey. Moushami became a post graduate in botany from the institute of science in 1993 & got married to Mr. Shashank Basu a doctor with the west Bengal government.
Sidarth dey, their son is an engineer & M.B.A. but he has taken script writing with sony, zee, star & Colours. He started his career as an assistant director under vinay shuklain his film,”koi mere dil se pooche”. He has been the script writer for all seasons of “Indian idol”, entertainment ke liye kuch bhi karega, fame gurukul, jhalak dikhla ja, k for kishore, nach baliye and many film & t.v. award events, happening within india & abroad. Currently he is busy with X FACTOR INDIA of sony.
WORKS:
Teaching experience: teaching life started from lakhni, Maharashtra in 1968. Taught English in degree classes for two years. After that she joined “Gondia education society” as a lecturer in English for 21 years. She has taught in Gondia & bhandara colleges in junior college, Degree College & a post graudate college.
Author: Mr. Raka dey has written poems, articles & short stories in various newspapers and magazines of Chhattisgarh & Maharashtra. She has also done a lot of translation work for eminent English authors like:
15 essays of Francis bacon as “anmol nibandh”, publisher S.Chand publication.
Hindi prose collection of renowned prose authors with the title “gadhya sankalan” under the pen name of Madhulika roy. This book has been prescribed as the text book in Nagpur University & many other universities of India.
She has also translated Ravindranath Tagore’s Geetanjali (originally in Bengali) into Hindi in 2006 under the samay prakashan, New Delhi.

She has also translated SHISHU by Rabindranath tagore in hindi which is published in year 2011 by the “samay prakashan”, New Delhi.
Currently she is busy translating the selected poems of words worth, Coleridge, Byron, Shelley & Keats in British literature & Emerson, Walt Whitman, Emilee Dickenson and Robert frost in American literature into Hindi. All these poets carry spiritual bent of mind having Man & God as their core themes. Nature has worked in them as a linking factor between man & god. This very aspect has drawn the interest of Mrs. Dey towards translating these poems into hindi so that spiritual minded & nature loving Indian readers can appreciate them and consider their works as their very intimate, close to their hearts.
