Rainer Buchmann

Rainer Buchmann (born 1960) is a german periodontist and clinical research scientist in periodontology.
Biography
Rainer Buchmann graduated from the School of Dentistry, University of Muenster 1985. He completed specialty training in periodontics 1988, and taught as senior lecturer at the Department of Periodontology, University of Muenster 1996.
Buchmann received his PhD equivalent (German Habilitation) 1999 as interim director of the Department of Periodontology at the University of Muenster. He became assistant professor at Boston University and Harvard Medical School 2000. He moved to the University of Duesseldorf 2004 where he founded a private practice limited to periodontics 2007. Buchmann was appointed as professor of periodontics at the University of Seville 2010. Buchmann is advisor of the German Research Foundation and member of the advisory board of the Journal of Periodontology. He is serving as periodontal educator both at the Universities of Duesseldorf and Seville and Dental Chambers throughout Germany.
From his marriage, Buchmann received 4 daughters.

* 1987, 1992, 1994: Research Awards of the German Society of Periodontology.
* 1998: Willoughby D. Miller Scientific Award of German Society of Dental, Oral and Craniomandibular Sciences for his PhD equivalent thesis Clinical, biochemical and microbial parameters guiding diagnosis and treatment in chronic and aggressive periodontal inflammation and regeneration therapy.
