The school
Rachel Carson Elementary School was built in 1990. The first 502 students to attend the school arrived 3 weeks later.
Many local residents argued that the new school should be named "Kentlands Elementary School" after the Kentlands Estate, which was turned into a nature preserve, and later a neighborhood, where most of RCES' students come from. Eventually the Montgomery Board of Education decided on the name "Rachel Carson Elementary School."
Feeder patterns
After the students graduate from 5th Grade, the students attend Lakelands Park Middle School.
