Querus Abuttu

Querus Abuttu, “Q" is the pen name and alter ego Cynthia "Cin" Tara Ferguson (born Cynthia Louise Grose, at Fort Huachuca, AZ, on 13 December 1962). She studied Writing Popular Fiction at Seton Hill University under such professors and mentors as Michael Arnzen, Tim Waggoner, Scott A. Johnson and Timmons Esaias.
Querus Abuttu is an American author of horror fiction, bizarre tales and science fiction. Her stories often address political, biological or ecological issues. Her work has been published in online magazines such as, 69 Flavors of Paranoia and Pantheon Magazine, and in an anthology titled, Hazard Yet Forward. She has worked as a Certified Nurse Midwife and Forensic Nurse Examiner for the Indian Health Services and the United States Navy for over thirty years. She has had scientific peer-reviewed articles published under Cynthia Tara Ferguson.
Education and early career
Querus enlisted in the United States Navy in 1983, and served five years as both an Aviation Electrician and Naval Aircrewman. From 1988 to 1992 she trained in the Navy Reserves, attended Old Dominion University and graduated with a Bachelors degree in Nursing. Her early years were spent working for the Indian Health Service (United States Public Health) Commissioned Corps as a Labor and Delivery Nurse on the Zuni Indian Reservation. Later, she pursued a Midwifery certification at Frontier School of Family Nursing and Midwifery, and graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a Masters of Science in Nursing. In 2009, she graduated from George Washington University (GWU) with a Masters Degree in Public Health and a certificate in Emergency Management. Her Ph.D. work focuses on violence in the military, and dissertation describes a theory study on interpersonal violence of active duty women in the deployed environment of Afghanistan.
Later career
In the last years of her career as a Navy Nurse Corps Officer, Nurse-Midwife and Forensic Nurse Examiner, Querus returned to writing fiction and founded the Ventura Fiction Writer's group in Ventura, California.She attended writing courses and eventually decided to pursue her Masters of Fine Arts in Writing Popular Fiction at Seton Hill University. Her fiction includes issues of violence (Pitter Patter), war (Center Mass), abuse of the earth (Green Waters) and animal cruelty (Scraggles).
Querus Abuttu is an active member of the Horror Writers Association (HWA) since 2012. She currently lives in [Ventura with her husband, Jim) two teenagers (Kira and Sean), her rescue dog Paris and three rescue cats (Nyha, Maddie and Chi).
