Putinjugend, also Putin Jugend (, meaning "Putin's Youth" in German and sometimes rendered in a literal English translation), is a pejorative neologism coined in analogy to Hitlerjugend, used as a slur, Nashi
Vasily Yakemenko, the head of Nashi, the largest of these groups, blamed web sites controlled by the exiled Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky, other political emigrants, and domestic opposition for propagation of the label. According to Ulrich Schmid, "Putin Youth" was originally coined in the mass media because Nashi took to wearing T-shirts with a portrait of Putin.<ref name="Schmid"/>
