Punctum Books

Punctum Books is an open-access and print-on-demand independent publisher based in Brooklyn, New York, United States.
History
The imprint was co-founded by Eileen A. Joy and Nicola Masciandaro in 2011 as an off-shoot of the BABEL Working Group, a "non-hierarchical scholarly collective" with a background in Medieval studies. Since its inception, Punctum has sought to bring creative works on the fringe of academic research to a broader public. Its main focus is on publishing "spontaneous acts of scholarly combustion", "dedicated to radically creative modes of intellectual inquiry and writing across a whimsical para-humanities assemblage".
In 2013, Punctum launched its non-profit counterpart Punctum Records, followed by an event at The New School. In 2014, Punctum Records and Punctum Books released a CD, cassette and book with new material on the noise music artist Minóy, simply titled Minóy.
Punctum also publishes the journals Anarchist Developments in Cultural Studies, Badiou Studies, Contention: The Multidisciplinary Journal of Social Protest, Helvete: A Journal of Black Metal Theory, Itineration: Cross-Disciplinary Studies in Rhetoric, Media and Culture, Networks and Neighbours, O-Zone: A Journal of Object Oriented Studies, Radical Criminology, and Speculations: A Journal of Speculative Realism.
