Psychophile

Psychophile are a band project founded by Mathew Hook. Their sound borrows from numerous genres including Goth_music, Electro_music, Rock_music, techno, New_Wave_music, punk rock and Pop_music. The project was formed with this name in 1990 at Exeter University after a nascent period at North Bromsgrove High School, during which Mathew played in band Sudden Death Raze with Jude Rawlins who later went on to form Psychophile continued under the same name with numerous line up changes after periods based in Stamford Hill , Edmonton, London and Acton until 2006 when the group disbanded after 10 years activity in Brighton on the South Coast of the UK During the early years psychophile existed either as a two piece or three piece combo, making use of a backing track of drum machine, samples and music sequencer basslines to provide an undertow for the front musicians, who always consisted of one or two processed and distorted guitars, sometimes with bass guitar, and a lead vocal. Mathew provided vocals for the band until 1999, when Lucy Janes joined to provide a much needed impetus to drive the project forward. Psychophile went on to release 2 full albums via Wasp_Factory_Recordings with Lucy on vocals, following numerous self made releases on cassette and cd.
