Pronk, or "progressive punk", is a music genre that combines the complex structures favoured by progressive rock with the energy and immediacy of punk rock. It is a less defined genre, and more a reaction to the idea that these two kinds of music must be kept apart. However, over three decades of musicians, including the pioneers of the nu metal, avant-garde metal and math rock genres, are heavily influenced by Tim Smith's and Cardiacs' work, such as: Mr. Bungle, Dog Fashion Disco, System of a Down, Blur, Tool, Korn, Battles, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum and The Display Team, and are often dubbed as having a 'Pronk sound'.
