Prince of Chota

Kittagusta (d. 1768)
also known as Skalilosken or the Prince of Chota was a Cherokee leader who conducted diplomacy with British authorities during the 18th century. He travelled to London in 1730 with other Cherokee leaders to formalize relations with King George II. Kittagusta also negotiated an agreement at Fort Prince George in 1765, establishing a rough boundary with North Carolina and South Carolina.
Some historians identify Oconostota, the Warrior of Chota, as also the Prince of Chota in 1760,
but this is contradicted by contemporary sources that distinguish between the two.
The use of the term "prince" was purely a British invention, as the Cherokee had no monarchy.
