Prince Gabriel of Sweden, Duke of Dalarna (Gabriel Carl Walther; born 31 August 2017) is the second child of Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia. He is a grandson of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia. Prince Gabriel is sixth in the line of succession to the Swedish throne as of June 2018. Birth Prince Gabriel was born on 31 August 2017 at Danderyd Hospital in Danderyd, Sweden. The Prince's full name is Gabriel Carl Walther and substantive title is Duke of Dalarna, which was announced by his grandfather King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden on 4 September 2017. A Te Deum service took place on 4 September 2017, to honour and celebrate the birth of Prince Gabriel. Prince Gabriel was christened on 1 December 2017 at the Chapel of the Drottningholm Palace. His godparents are his paternal aunt Princess Madeleine, his father's cousin Thomas de Toledo Sommerlath, his maternal aunt Sara Hellqvist, his father's friend Oscar Kylberg and his mother's friend Carolina Pihl. On 7 October 2019 the king issued a statement rescinding the style Royal Highness and removing Gabriel from the royal house in an effort to more strictly associate Swedish royalty to the office of the head of state; he is still to be styled as a prince and duke and remains in the line of succession to the throne.
