Prince Friedrich Ferdinand of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (Full German name: Friedrich Ferdinand Carl Ernst August Wilhelm Harold Casimir Nikolaus Prinz von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg; 14 May 1913, in Gotha, Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Germany - 31 May 1989, in Glücksburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany) was a prince of the House of Glücksburg.
Parents
Friedrich Ferdinand was the fourth child and youngest son of Prince Albert of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (1863-1948) and his first wife, Countess Ortrud of Ysenburg and Büdingen (1879-1918).
Marriage and issue
Friedrich Ferdinand married Duchess Anastasia of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, youngest daughter of Frederick Francis IV, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and his wife Princess Alexandra of Hanover and Cumberland, on 1 September 1943 at Willigrad bei Schwerin. Friedrich Ferdinand and Anastasia had four daughters:
* Princess Elisabeth Marie Alexandra of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (born 10 September 1945); she currently serves as the Royal Patroness of the Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem (Latin - Ordo Supremus Militaris Templi Hierosolymitani, abbreviated as OSMTH).

Military service
Prince Friedrich served in the German Heer (army) during World War II. He served as general staff officer and rose to the rank of major by early 1945. On February 10, 1945 he was placed in command of Panzergrenadier-Regiment 40, a unit of the 17th Panzer Division on the Eastern Front. He commanded the regiment (except from April 1 to 23) until the capitulation of Germany on May 8, 1945. He was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on February 22, 1945 and was promoted to the rank of Oberstleutnant (lieutenant colonel) shortly afterwards.
