Prescott Studio

Prescott Studio is an Italian company, headquartered in Florence, Italy, since 1996. They create and develop an editing system of multimedia translation focused on surtitling and multilingual titling for the live performing arts. This organization operates internationally with theaters, and cultural and academic institutions.
Mission
Prescott Studio is committed nationally and internationally to enhance the audience’s understanding of musical theater and drama through a technologically-advanced linguistic mediation for the live performing arts.
History
From 1996 to 2012, Prescott Studio has built a repertoire of over 800 productions. Their innovative contribution to linguistic mediation for the live performing arts, in these years, has been significant. In 2010 this organization created TWIST (Tecnologie Wireless Integrate per lo Spettacolo Teatrale - Wireless Integrated Technologies for the Performing Arts). In 2011 they collaborated with Royal Opera House Muscat (Oman) on multilingual titling. In the same year Prescott began a partnership with OperaVoice and with the festival of Maggio Musicale Fiorentino introducing wireless multilingual titling, an experiment to make opera, drama, puppetry, and other traditions of live performance accessible to mobile communication. In January 2013 they produced the English-Arabic surtitling, at the National Theatre, for the first opera ever performed in Bahrain.
Prescott and its initiatives have been studied in M. A. and B. A. Theses at European Universities. According to such scholarly investigations, Prescott belongs in a cultural category similar to publishers, writers, and translators; its methods are placed within the contemporary discussion on original and translated texts as different intellectual approaches to the theater.
