Premavision

Premavision Inc., also known as Clokey Productions, Inc., is an American animation studio and production company. It was founded in 1956 by Art Clokey and his wife Ruth Clokey as Clokey Films to produce the Gumby series for NBC. During its early years, it was located in Hollywood, California. The company was later renamed to Clokey Productions and relocated to Glendora, California in 1960. In 1961, Clokey Productions began production on Davey and Goliath for the Lutheran Church in America. Ruth closed down the old Glendora studio in the late 1970s; however in 1986, Art and his second wife, Gloria Clokey, relaunched the company as Premavision (which is taken from the ancient Sanskrit word "Prema", which means "love") to produce new Gumby episodes for Lorimar-Telepictures. The new studio was relocated in Sausalito, California, with a staff of 60 artists. A new licensing company was also formed, simply called Prema Toy Company. Premavision also funded by themselves, which was eventually released by Arrow Releasing in 1995. Since the early 2000s, Premavision is currently run by Art's son, Joe Clokey, and located in the Central Coast of California, with the Sausalito staff sill remaining. Joe also brought back the Clokey Productions name to accompany it with Premavision's new animation studio. In 2003, the company purchased the television rights to Gumby from Warner Bros. Television; later in 2007, it purchased all rights to the series, ending their 29-year deal with Warner. The Gumby series is currently managed by Classic Media, however, production and ownership rights for the series, along with copyrights, remain with Premavision.
