Power Pirate

Power Pirate is an Independent Electronic Rock band formed in Washington, D.C. in the Fall of 2007. The band is made up of singer / guitarist Emily Pakulski, keyboard and keyboard bass player Michael Garate and drummer Annika Monari. They are currently unsigned. Power Pirate has won several awards, including winning the DC Mirrors Battle of the Bands. Their Electronic Rock style has been called "Boundary-Shattering" and "head-rocking." The band has been noted in the Washington Post's Weekend Section for performances including those at The Black Cat and Fort Reno summer concert series. The band employs the Do It Yourself method for all of the band functions including promotion, design, recording, mixing, and mastering.
History
The band formed in 2007 and has released one untitled demo in the summer of 2009. They recorded material their demo and upcoming album in their home studio in early June. Emily designs most of the graphical content for the group with some collaboration with Michael.
Emily began learning the guitar from her mother, a classical guitar teacher, in 2006. From there she taught herself guitar starting from the basics, eventually studying Guitar Technique, Music Theory, and advanced Picking techniques at the National Guitar Workshop in McLean, VA.
Michael coded the band's website and Myspace page, and additionally acts as the band's sound technician and producer. Michael has studied music theory with the Levine School of Music in Kensington, MD, and Studio Recording at their Washington, D.C. location.
