PLS Logistics Services is a third-party logistics management services provider. Based outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, PLS provides dependable outsourced logistics solutions as well as freight brokerage services.
History
In 1991, Pittsburgh Logistics Systems was founded to provide logistics management services to the metals industry. Within a few short years, the company then expanded their capabilities to addition industries, including lumber and building products, nuclear, hazardous materials, and heavy industrial equipment.
In 1999, Pittsburgh Logistics launched e-flatbed.com, the first iteration of their proprietary web-based transportation management system. In the years following the launch of eflatbed.com, Pittsburgh Logistics expanded their list of service offerings to include dedicated truck transportation services in 2003 and freight brokerage services in 2006.
In 2008, Pittsburgh Logistics was officially rebranded as PLS Logistics Services and their transportation management system, eflatbed.com, was rebranded as PLS Pro.
In 2011, PLS opened it's first branch office in Jacksonville, Florida
Today, PLS has grown to be one if the leading transportation service providers of industrial freight. They ship over one million loads annually across all major freight modes: flatbed, van, LTL, rail & barge, air & ocean. Their 1,200+ customers benefit from the broad PLS Transportation network PLS has built over they years, which consists of over 150,000 trucks representing 12,000 carrier partners, along with Class-1 railroads and major barge companies.

Environmentalism
In thier efforts to be an environmentally conscience company, PLS Logistics Services joined the SmartWay Transport Partnership, an innovative collaboration between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the freight industry, designed to increase energy efficiency while significantly reducing greenhouse gases and air pollution.
The EPA’s SmartWay Transport Partnership is a government and industry collaboration between the EPA, freight shippers, carriers, logistics companies and other stakeholders, to voluntarily achieve improved fuel efficiency and reduce environmental impacts from freight transport. Participating companies benchmark their current freight operations, identify technologies and strategies to reduce their carbon emissions, track emissions reductions and project future improvement. SmartWay partners demonstrate to customers, clients, and investors that they are taking responsibility for the emissions associated with goods movement, are committed to corporate social responsibility and sustainable business practices, and are reducing their carbon footprint.
PLS does their part in contributing to SmartWay’s goal of reducing emissions of carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and air-polluting particle matter. This goal is accomplished by working directly with freight carriers to consistently improve their environmental performance.
