Pixel overdrive is a method used to make video on LCD screens look better. Generally, LCD screens display video at 60 frames per second. However, the physical color of a pixel may take longer than 1/60th of a second to arrive at the destination color. When the video shown is displaying a moving object it may appear smudged due to this effect. Pixel overdrive attempts to fix this problem by forcing the pixel farther than it is actually supposed to go. This results in the proper color appearing on the screen faster, and reduces the smudging effect, but a negative effect is that some monitors experience increased input lag and/or "halos" around objects because of this technique.
