Pita F. Hopoate

Pita Foliake Hopoate (born 1947) is a member of the Eighth Quorum of the Seventy and an area seventy in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Hopoate was the first Tongan to hold a position in the church that was sustained in the church's general conference. In 2008, he was the longest serving area seventy to date, having served in that position since 1997.

Hoape is married to Lani Alconcel. They are the parents of seven children.

Hopoate is a store owner and farmer. Hopoate has a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University Hawaii. Hopoate has also served as director of the church schools in Tonga. More recently, Hopoate has been appointed the Church Educational System Country Director for Guam, the Marianas Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia.

Prior to his call as an area seventy, Hopoate was a regional representative of the Twelve, president of the church's Tonga Nuku'alofa Mission, a stake president, and a bishop. Also he served fora time as president of the Missionary Training Center in Tonga.

Hopoate was a recipient of one of BYU Hawaii's 2008 "Genuine Gold" awards given to alumni.

Hopoate was originally assigned as an area seventy in the church's Pacific Area. However, after he moved to Micronesia he has since been reasigned as an area seventy in the Asia North Area.
