Piroxicam
Indications
Osteoarthritis, post-traumatic & acute musculoskeletal disorder.
Dosage
10-40 mg daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food (Take immediately after meals.).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to NSAIDs or aspirin. Active peptic ulcer or bleeding.
Special Precautions
Renal, hepatic or cardiac impairment, coagulopathy, porphyria, history of GI disease. Elderly. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Drug Reactions
GI discomfort, headache, dizziness, hypersensitivity reactions. Occasionally, GI bleeding or ulceration.
Drug Interactions
Lithium, diuretics & antihypertensives, K-sparing diuretics or K-containing preparations, anticoagulants, quinolones, lithium.

Pregnancy Category (US FDA)


Category C: Either studies in animals have revealed adverse effects on the foetus (teratogenic or embryocidal or other) and there are no controlled studies in women or studies in women and animals are not available. Drugs should be given only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the foetus.
