Pineapple guru

Pineapple Guru is a significant Seattle area indie rock band, helping to push the boundaries of rock in many aspects. Their use of innovative sampling techniques have influenced many bands in the Seattle music scene. Their intense live shows have also been cited as influential by many.

Creation

Pineapple Guru was created in April of 2007 in Issaquah, Washington. They quickly gained notoriety by headlining shows in the area at venues such as the Old Fire House, Vera Project and KTUB. They have since been signed to Lunchable Productions, a small label based out of Seattle. They are made up of frontman and guitarist Andy Farley, bassist Billy Watters and drummer Andrew Baer.

Debut Album

Pineapple Guru is currently recording their highly anticipated self-titled debut album. It is being produced by DJ Lunch, owner of Lunchable Productions. He says he took a distinct interest in the band after hearing them play live for the first time: "they completely dominated the stage with their presence and innate songwriting capability."
Frontman and guitarist Andy Farley says that the album has a "distinct, yet familiar tone." Watters states that his bass playing on the album is "similar to that of Flea or John Entwistle". Baer has stated that he has tried to emulate both Meg White and Jon Bonham in his drum playing.

Sexual Indecency Controversy

Pineapple Guru were embroiled in a scandal with the local media over the sexually explicit lyrics to their song "Sex on a Stick." The lyrics included lines like "it goes in better when its greased" and "i like the taste of your meat in my mouth." These lines caused controversy when the band played at an Issaquah School District benefit with the Sunset Elementary choir. The band was immediately ushered off of the stage and have recieved near constant death threats from parents. No shows have been played since, and their are no current plans for any future tour. Farley says that they could play again if it was "at least three states away. The parents in Issaquah really did not appreciate hearing their children sing about 'sucking like a vaccuum'".
