Pillar Nonprofit Network

Located in downtown London, Ontario, Canada, Pillar Nonprofit Network supports nonprofit organizations in fulfilling their missions in the community. It provides leadership, advocacy and support to the nonprofit sector through the promotion of volunteerism, professional development, networking, and information. It is also a founding member of the Nonprofit Library Network Ontario and the Canadian Federation of Voluntary Sector Networks.
Mission and Vision
Pillar's stated mission is "to strengthen the effectiveness of the nonprofit sector", while its stated vision is "a stronger nonprofit sector for an engaged, inclusive and vibrant community".
History
*June 2001: Community Volunteer Summit, which included the following goals:
**build partnerships with private and public sectors
**expand on the volunteer bureau concept using user-friendly technology: a virtual volunteer network
**develop a “Chamber of Charities”
**enhance the credibility and accountability of the nonprofit sector
**ensure that the nonprofit sector welcomes all members of society
*July 2001: Pillar Voluntary Sector Network is created through a partnership with Human Resources Development Canada and the United Way of London & Middlesex
*August 2002: Pillar Voluntary Sector Network opened its office in the London Public Library’s central branch
*April 2003: Official launch of www.pillarv.com
*July 2003: Incorporation as a nonprofit organization
*May 2004: Granted official Canadian charity , Meals On Wheels, Kinette Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Neighborhood Watch, the London and Middlesex chapters of the United Way, the Alzheimer Society, Ronald McDonald House, the Canadian Liver Foundation, and the Southwestern Ontario chapters of the YMCA, the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Goodwill Industries, Make-a-Wish Foundation, Scouts Canada, and the VON.
