Piero Atchugarry (b. 1987 in Lecco, Italy) is an Italian-Uruguayan gallerist, art dealer and Executive Director of the Fundación Pablo Atchugarry (Punta del Este, Uruguay). He is the founder of Piero Atchugarry Gallery in and specialized in international modern and contemporary art. Life and Career Piero Atchugarry is the son of Pablo Atchugarry, a celebrated international Uruguayan sculptor based between Italy and Uruguay. From a very young age, Piero was surrounded by art in all its forms. Travelling between Italy, Uruguay and Madrid he absorbed the artistic heritage of these different cultures by visiting the main museums, galleries and art institutions. In 2003, aged 16, he attended the 50th Venice Biennale for the first time when his father participated as Uruguay’s artistic representative. after which he obtained a BA in Business Management & Finance at the University of Westminster, London. While completing his studies he worked in finance. He later obtained an MA in History of Art from , New York. He was still interning at Christie’s when he opened the Piero Atchugarry Gallery in 2013, in Garzón, Uruguay. From then on, he developed the gallery’s strategic vision, embedding it with a core identity, adapting to fluctuating global trends through exchanges between international artists, curators, collectors and institutions. In December 2018 the gallery opened a second venue in Miami Design District (US). Besides the gallery intra muros exhibitions activity, Piero Atchugarry has developed the PA Takeover project, an external collaboration program engaging galleries, artists, curators and communities between the United States and abroad. The first PA Takeover was presented in 2019 with a solo exhibition by Túlio Pinto at the Fondamenta Sant'Apollonia (Venice). The second satellite exhibition (T,X,Y,Z) held in Miami’s Design District on June 2020. From September 3 to October 1, 2020, the gallery presents the Backseat Driver project at SAPAR Contemporary (New York, Tribeca).
