Noel Limbani Innocent Jack Chikoleka a.k.a Phyzix; was born to and raised by an administrator and banker; A.J and E.J Chikoleka respectively. He was born on 18th December, 1986 in a family of five until his brother Austin, second born, passed away. He was born and raised in Area 12, Lilongwe Malawi then in 2004 he moved to Area 25. Education Phyzix did his Primary School at Mphungu L.E.A School in Area 12 and Secondary School at Marist Secondary in Dedza. He passed his MSCE very well and was selected to The University of Malawi’s The Polytechnic to study Engineering. He dropped out. Then he went to Mzuzu University to study Information and Communication Technology. He dropped out again. Background His family has been at Malawian Embassies in The United States of America, The United Kingdom and The Republic of South Africa. So, he grew up with siblings and parents with foreign experiences and accents hence he got his accent and foreign perspective from his family. His father, A.J Chikoleka was a fanatic of Music. He used to get latest Vinyls all the way from U.S.A. Phyzix grew up listening to Jim Reeves, Jimmy Cliff, Elvis Presley, James Brown, Harry Belafonte and countless classics courtesy of his father. Then around the 90s; his late brother Austin started playing this strange music with catchy beats and brothers talking along it who were referred to as Rappers. When he asked his brother who these people were; his brother was like: “that is The Wu-tang Clan, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, KRS-One, Naughty by Nature, N.W.A, 2 Pac, Notorious B.I.G, Puff Daddy, Mase, Will Smith and Nas.” This music kept on playing and he kept memorizing it and showing it off to his friends. That was primary school. Then at Marist Secondary School; he met a few friends and they made a rap group called Cutt Killers, composed of Divine Sense, Lex, D4G, Architect, Mighty and himself; Figa 7; at the time before becoming Phyzix. Then on one particular weekend there was a variety show and he memorized a certain Dr. Dre verse to perform at the show. This was his first time to be on stage and Eminem’s description on “Loose yourself” clearly described him on that day. He lost it and was the butt of people’s jokes. That was the boiling point of his growing pains. This was the time he looked up to The Lone Ranger way of life. The Lone Ranger Way of Life Phyzix grew up believing The Lone Ranger Creed and way of life. The Lone Ranger is a comic character that later became a cartoon then big screen movie. This was his favorite cartoon as a kid. With his problems of fitting in and being regarded as an outcast; he had no friends and people dissed him left and right. This was the time he put the Lone Ranger Creed and way of Life into practice by creating the image called Phyzix; meaning a type of rapper who unifies energy and matter when he writes music i.e. passion and ability. He worked hard in everything, lived in seclusion, had no friends, did good to the good and bad to the bad and mostly became a master of everything he learnt. Slowly but surely he became good in a great number of things because of The Lone Ranger Concept such as: Basketball, Hip Hop, Martial Arts, Education and so much more. The Lone Ranger Creed "I believe..... That to have a friend, a man must be one That all men are created equal and that everyone has within himself the power to make this a better world. That God put the firewood there, but that every man must gather and light it himself. In being prepared physically, mentally, and morally to fight when necessary for that which is right That a man should make the most of what equipment he has. That 'this government of the people, by the people, and for the people' shall live always That man should live by the rule of what is best for the greatest number. That sooner or later...somewhere...somehow...we must settle with the world and make payment for what we have taken. That all things change but truth, and that truth alone, lives on forever. In my Creator, my country, my fellow man" The Lone Ranger way of Life • The Lone Ranger is never seen without his mask or a disguise. • With emphasis on logic, The Lone Ranger is never captured or held for any length of time by lawmen, avoiding his being unmasked. • At all times, The Lone Ranger uses perfect grammar and precise speech completely devoid of slang and colloquial phrases. • When he has to use guns, The Lone Ranger never shoots to kill, but rather only to disarm his opponent as painlessly as possible. • Logically, too, The Lone Ranger never wins against hopeless odds; i.e., he is never seen escaping from a barrage of bullets merely by riding into the horizon. • Even though The Lone Ranger offers his aid to individuals or small groups, the ultimate objective of his story is to imply that their benefit is only a by-product of a greater achievement -- the development of the West or our Country. His adversaries are usually groups whose power is such that large areas are at stake. • All adversaries are American to avoid criticism from minority groups. • Names of unsympathetic characters are carefully chosen, avoiding the use of two names as much as possible to avoid even further vicarious association. More often than not, a single nickname is selected. • The Lone Ranger does not drink or smoke, and saloon scenes are usually interpreted as cafes with waiters and food instead of bartenders and liquor. First Songs and Performances (2000) This was the time he met the Nasty Jam Djs: Rodman, Big Joe and Vicky Smallz. He perfected his rhyming and stage performance skills at their shows. When he felt ready to record a track; he went to his home boy Dominant 1 to get a beat and recorded his first studio single with M-Crazy called “It’s a killer” which was about HIV/AIDS. He performed it at a fully packed Civo stadium during The Stars Aware AIDS campaign and a number of radio Djs such as Ephraim Nyirenda, Eduardo and others fell in love with it and got it for airplay. It was being played a lot on radio and reached the extent of being a theme song for an FM Power 101 HIV/AIDS radio program. He was so motivated by this that writing rhymes became his daily habit. He was finally getting the appreciation and acceptance that he had longed for a very long time. Hit single: Cholapitsa (2006) He kept writing and performing songs till he went to college at The University of Malawi’s The Polytechnic. While there, he recorded “Cholapitsa” which was basically about exorcising his inner demons. It is a song about venting out anger and pain as well as accepting yourself as to who you truly are no matter how bad you may seem. It took a totally different approach to the direction of those days; everybody in the Malawian Hip Hop industry at the time was about flossing or revolution or culture or politics or club joints but Cholapitsa took a reverse psychology approach; accepting who he is and who he is not, took a gangster approach referring to himself as a raga muffin from the ghetto who cares less about what people think about him. It revolutionized Malawi Hip Hop as people now started being honest in their lyrics, having an African state of mind contrary to before. It became a hit instantly in the University of Malawi. Then it went out to be a national hit which made him lose focus totally in school. So, my day view album is about The Lone Ranger concept and what I went through which I believe a lot of Youth go through in terms of acceptance, self love and appreciation by your peers. I wish to bring hope to those going through what I went through. Discography Phyzix has released three mix tapes and two albums: A. Mix tapes 1. The Overdue mix tape (2006) 2. Secondly, he takes himself as a Secret Service agent as he works hard for his career and sacrificed a lot like undercover agents do but does not cry for recognition rather he finds pleasure in the struggle for what he loves; being a Musician. The Cholapitsa star was inspired by Malawi's Hip Hop pioneering group; Real Elements and Dr. Dre.
