Design Goals
According to the official Physioalphabet website,<ref name=":0" /> HPA was created to "describe the most important features of the alphabet," which are listed as following:
# HPA applies only to human beings.
# HPA originates from human anatomy and physiology.
# HPA’s system is an alphabet, not some other notation system.
Features
HPA permits the expression of a wide variety of phonetic features, including consonants and vowels.
The consonant types supported with the HPA are plosives, nasals, trills, taps/flaps, fricatives, and approximants.
