PhpLD

phpLD, short for PHP Link Directory, was first created as a link directory script and was released to the public as a free script in 2005, but also offers a paid version. The founder is David DuVal, and developers include James Marsh, Bogdan Dumitru, Adrian Rotea, Pavel Tytkuk, and Raluca Nicula. This PHP Script is a web application that acts as a CMS or Content Management System like Wordpress or Joomla, but is specialized in categorizing information. Initially, phpLD only categorized links, but now it manages other forms of content including articles, videos, pictures and more.. phpLD is used on thousands of websites and is included as a free script on many hosting platforms through Softaculous.
Features
phpLD organizes links and other information into categories. There is a front end submission form where links can be submitted, and then an admin panel where links are approved, edited or deleted. In later versions of the software, content such as articles, coupons, videos and business listings can be submitted and moderated by the admin. Anti-spam technologies like Bot Scout and Recapthca help reduce low quality submissions. Widgets are used to display content in different zones such as the side bar or central content panel.
Libraries
phpLD is composed of several open source components. It uses Smarty for the template system. YAML Css Library is used to structure the layout. TinyMCE is incorporated to manage HTML editing. Other libraries include Snoopy, pclzip and and Pear.
Templates and Modifications
As with many PHP applications there are mod developers and template designers who create additional resources for users of the software.
