Peter Maple (born 26 March 1948) is Course Director of the Postgraduate Charity Fundraising and Marketing courses at London South Bank University who currently have the largest cohort of charity students in the UK . He is the unit leader for fundraising and strategic charity marketing, lecturing and writing widely on those subjects. Maple joined the voluntary sector in 1990 as campaign director for the National Council of YMCAs in England following a successful marketing career in companies as diverse as Unipart and Apple Computers. Maple is a fundraiser turned academic. He has more than 18 years senior practioner experience as a fundraiser and charity marketeer. He was director of fundraising at Arthritis Care for eight years in the 90's during which time he developed and implemented a fundraising strategy that helped the charity nearly double its income to £10m. At Leonard Cheshire he was director of public affairs launching a number of innovative communications and marketing initiatives during his time there. At Crisis he helped the charity to create their, innovative social investment vehicle know as Urban Investors which was launched at the Stock Exchange in November 2009. Since 2005 he has been lecturing on fundraising and charity marketing at LSBU. He also teaching and researching 21st Century Marketing — a unit which includes a look at post modern marketing. He has as well successfully completed a number of interim fundraising director positions with national and international charities. As of 2009 he is conducting research into charity donor motivation and behavior. The impact of his research into major gift fundraising custom and practice has affected the way that charities approach the subject of major donors. Other research topics include the giving habits of baby-boomers and the impact of social enterprise in the UK economy. He is a professional colleague of Professor Adrian Sargeant and also Professor Stephen Lee who are, along with Maple and the Institute of Fundraising also campaigning for a greater emphasis on funding for meaningful fundraising research. Lindsay Boswell Chief Executive of the Institute has resigned from an advisory group over this issue. In addition to academic work Maple is a trustee of Working Families and the Cranfield Trust and is chair of the fundraising consultants group of the Institute of Fundraising.
