Peter Heyck

Peter Karl Heyck (born September 26, 1974) is a Canadian bibliophile who was born and currently resides in Ottawa, Ontario.
Heyck is the great-grandson of German cultural historian and editor Eduard Heyck (1862-1941), and the grandson of writer and poet Hans Heyck (1891-1972). Heyck’s father emigrated from Germany to Canada in the 1950’s, and his mother from Barbados to Canada in the 1960’s. His family moved to the Ottawa region in 1973. Heyck's first job was for the Central Canada Exhibition Association (aka Ottawa SuperEx) at the age of 14.
Heyck has a background in business services and retail operations and sales.
He studied history and political science at Carleton University.

Involvement in local politics
Heyck is currently running as a candidate for Ottawa city council representing Bay Ward in the Ottawa municipal election, 2010.
Heyck is regarded as having socially progressive to fiscally conservative political views. He supports increased municipal spending to supplement provincial mental health and addiction prevention/treatment strategies, and to aggressively combat chronic homelessness. He is an advocate of local inter-faith community initiatives and increased awareness of GLBT social issues.
Heyck supports proposals to limit tax increases to the inflation rate and supports the elimination of the number of wards and council seats. He is in favour of reducing a number of municipal government positions by contracting selected services to the private sector.
