Paulo Taylor

Paulo Taylor de Carvalho (born January 3, 1977) is an Angolan-Portuguese computer programmer, Internet visionary, inventor, entrepreneur and artist. Born in Lobito, Angola, his parents (Elizabeth Taylor and Inácio de Carvalho) left the country 3 months after his birth for political reasons, becoming war refugees in Portugal.
Paulo was 6 years old when he first showed a particular interest in computers. His first company was funded with friends (in 1999), with the goal of building and selling company websites.
In 2000, Paulo moved to Amsterdam, and in 2003, he created the eBuddy app. Paulo’s idea was established as a result from a bet to develop a mobile phone application. After several weeks, he won the bet and uploaded the application to a server A web version was soon developed following users' demands. As user traffic spurred, Taylor decided to take the idea further.
Apart from the bet, Paulo wanted to create something useful for himself, so he went on to programming the eBuddy (chat) to use on his mobile phone. From the mobile version, he then adapted the technology to computers; accessible even when the instant messaging services were blocked. In February 2004, Paulo officially founded the company with an ex-colleague; and in October he quit his main job.
The eBuddy app (EverywhereMSN.com) was a pioneer in the mobile messaging landscape, with its services having 400 million users, 300 million downloads and 650 billion messages processed.
The company's flagship service is XMS, a proprietary cross-platform instant messaging service.
In 2013, Paulo Taylor and his partners (Jan-Joost Rueb and Onno Bakker) sold the company to booking.com, and in that same year, Paulo and Myriam Taylor started a biotech company, named Muxima Bio BV.Taylor currently holds the position of Chairman at both the holding company and its Portuguese subsidiary, Muxima Bio PT.
Paulo Taylor also holds the positions of Entrepreneur in Residence and Mentor at Beta-i, a startup incubator in Portugal that created the Lisbon Challenge.
