Paul Yarrow or the news raider is a community worker in London who has become famous for appearing in the background of news reports. Paul Yarrow has been a carer since the age of 12, looking after first his grandmother, then his father, Patrick, and then his mother Stella. In 2008, he won a Good Samaritan award from the South London Press, having been nominated as Community Champion and Carer of the Year for caring for his disabled family and friends and his support of numerous campaigns, causes and community initiatives in South London. He has appeared in the background of numerous television news reports, including those broadcast by Al Jazeera, BBC News, Channel 4 News, ITV News and Sky News. This first started when he appeared at protests against the appearance of Nick Griffin on Question Time. He has also appeared on Antiques Roadshow and has applied to be on Big Brother. Comedian Russell Howard has lampooned him as the "fat guy who just wants to get on TV". When interviewed directly, he said that he had been making these appearances as a form of protest against being snubbed by reporters due his being unattractive and overweight — "I have been at events where the media have chatted to people and when they get to me they see my pot belly and move on to the next person."
