Paul Egan

Paul Egan' (born 21st June 1986) is a former professional goalkeeper (now retired) who played with Kerry District League side Classic F.C..

Early Life & Career

Egan was born in Tralee, Co. Kerry to father Tom and mother Noreen. He excelled at several sports most notably golf, Gaelic football and soccer.
Egan signed for Tralee outlet Classic FC in October 2007. He made over 10 appearances for the club in the 2007/2008 season keeping a total of 6 clean sheets which was a KDL record at the time. Egan attracted a lot of attention from big name clubs such as Manchester United, Boca Juniors and Italian giants AC Milan, a club Egan had supported as a boy.
Despite many million pound offers, a loyal Egan decided to remain at his beloved ‘Ics’ during the transfer window, a decision he would later describe as ‘the biggest mistake of his life’

Controversy & Retirement

Egan was widely criticised for several sub par performances in the latter half of the 2007/2008 season, a slip in form he put down to ‘complete physical and mental exhaustion’ due to the attention the then 21 year old was receiving both on and off the field.
After a 2-1 defeat to Asdee Rovers in the Greyhound Cup, Egan was once again criticised for a poor performance and in the following weeks would have a number of very public debacles with then player/manager Timmy Lynch. Although Egan would play 2 more games for the club (in which he kept 2 clean sheets) it was to mark the begging of the end for his tenure in top-flight football and he announced his retirement in June 2008, just a week shy of his 22nd birthday.

Personal Life

Egan has completely disassociated himself with the world of soccer in recent months and is now a prominent after dinner speaker.
In May 2007 Egan married his long time girlfriend Sinead Ashe. They have two children Layliea (August 2006) & Maiyana (May 2008). They live in a mock Tudor mansion in Cheshire.
