Paten Hughes is an American actress and producer, best known for the web series Heirloom. Early life and education Hughes was born Lauran Paten Hughes in Richmond, Virginia. She is daughter to S. Anderson Hughes, President of the Central Virginia Region of BB&T, and Laura, an elementary school teacher. Her brother, Gilliam, is an associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers. She attended the Center for Leadership, Government and Global Economics at Douglas S. Freeman High School. Paten graduated with honors in Theatre and French at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, performing the role of Desdemona in her senior thesis production of Shakespeare's Othello directed by professor Joseph D. Martinez. She trained at London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). Career Hughes' first major role upon leaving RADA was that of Rachel in My Name Is Rachel Corrie directed by Jaq Besell. She became an original member of Kevin Spacey's Old Vic New Voices, an emerging talent initiative within London's iconic Old Vic Theatre. There, she starred as Irina in Anton Chekov's Three Sisters under the directorship of Eve Best. Paten returned stateside to perform in Add Verb Productions' one-woman show called The Thin Line. Directed by Cathy Plourde, The Thin Line shed light on the lifelong trauma and heartache associated with eating disorders. Shortly after, Hughes played high school swimmer Blake Martin opposite Edward Herrmann in the film, Coach of the Year, based on a true story about a swim team that tried to win their state championship without a pool of its own to practice in. Hughes' appears as Monica in Chadd Harbold's gritty New York drama Long Nights Short Mornings starring Shiloh Fernandez. Long Nights Short Mornings premiered at SXSW 2016 and was listed as one of buzziest films of the festival. Hughes stars alongside Margaret Colin, Tom Wopat, Ryan Cooper, John Lavelle, Luis Vega, and Pascale Armand in the web series Heirloom; Heirloom's first season garnered over 4 million views on Vimeo.
