Partnership for AiR Transportation Noise and Emissions Reduction

The Partnership for AiR Transportation Noise and Emissions Reduction is a nine-university research consortium that examines means to mitigate aviation-related impacts on the environment. Member schools include Georgia Institute of Technology, Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Pennsylvania State University, Purdue University, Stanford University, Missouri University of Science and Technology, University of North Carolina, and York University. Major areas of research currently include more than examining emissions, noise, alternative fuels, aviation operations, and tools/system-level policy assessment. PARTNER is assisted in its mission by a unique and diverse 51-member advisory board comprising airlines, manufacturers, professional/trade organizations, and community advocacy groups. PARTNER is sponsored by the Federal Aviation Administration, NASA, and Transport Canada. Its headquarters are in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Aeronautics and Astronautics Department.
An example of a major research result from PARTNER is Continuous Descent Arrival, a procedure that allows aircraft to approach airports in a significantly quieter, quicker, and more fuel-efficient manner.
