Parents Opposed To Pot

Parents Opposed To Pot is an American anti-cannabis organization founded in 2014 by parents whose children, teenagers or other family members have either been harmed through use of the drug or who are cautious about accepting the publicity spread by the cannabis industry. The word "Pot" in the organization's name refers to the slang use of the abbreviation of the Spanish word "potiguaya", meaning Marijuana, which was used profusely in the 1960s by American Hippies.
In October 2022, affiliates of the group, Dr. Kevin Sabet, speaker and mother Laura Stack, former Chief Medical Officer of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy,
Roneet Lev MD, and author/actress Heidi Swan appeared on the TV program discussing the negative and sometimes fatal associations of cannabis use and mental health . The group has also been subject to ridicule by cannabis users, on Social Media forums and websites, such as Dangerous Minds.
The organization's website aims to raise awareness of the highly concentrated THC products sold at the cannabis dispensaries in American states whose citizens voted for cannabis legalization.
Some of the concerns raised include the agricultural breeding of the natural cannabis or Hemp plant to increase its content of psychoactive THC to the extent that chronic users are highly at risk of developing cannabis use disorder, psychosis, paranoia, schizo-affective disorder, and in some long term users, full blown schizophrenia.
Other topics raised by the group include the practical differences between decriminalization and legalization, effects on pregnancy and breastfeeding, child endangerment and driving, with links to medical research, external published articles and testimonials from parents.
