Pan American Society for Clinical Virology
|
The Pan American Society for Clinical Virology was founded in 1977, as the Pan American Group for Rapid Viral Diagnosis (PAGRVD), but the name was changed to the Pan American Society for Clinical Virology (PASCV) in 1995, to help in enhancing the standards of diagnostic virology in the United States as the European Group for Rapid Viral Diagnosis has done elsewhere. As the name goes, so does the working objective of the society flows on, where in the expanding role of the society sets its footprints in all the areas of clinical virology: viral pathogenesis, manifestations of disease, laboratory diagnosis, prevention, and therapy, and the improved understanding of all these. Founder and President Kenneth McIntosh, MD, founded the Pan American Society for Clinical Virology in 1977. Christine C. Ginocchio is the president of PASCV for 2012-2014. She also received Becton Dickinson award by American Society for Microbiology for her lifetime achievements in the field of clinical microbiology. Gregory A. Storch, MD, was announced as president-elect of the Pan American Society for Clinical Virology in April. The journal is into publishing since 1998 and is published by ScienceDirect, a subsidy of Elsevier. Other activities PASCV publishes newsletters which started in 2001. PASCV also offers achievement awards to research candidates and conducts annual symposium meeting.
