"Packarena" is a 1996 parody song performed by Jane Matenaer, morning host on WMYX-FM in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The song is sung to the tune of "Macarena," and was created to support the Green Bay Packers ahead of their Super Bowl XXXI win. The song gained worldwide exposure on February 16, 1997 when it was played on the Space Shuttle Discovery as a wake up call for Wisconsin-born astronaut Mark C. Lee, a moment that was broadcast on Good Morning America. Since then, it has made its way into references in popular culture, including being mentioned by David Spade on the Late Show with David Letterman. The song is sometimes misattributed to musical group Da Yoopers. |
