Osman Mehmood

Osman Mehmood is a 20 year old Glasgow University student who recently won Inspirational young Muslim of the year at the Young Scottish Muslim Awards on 30th October 2008 at Celtic Park. Scotland's First Minister, Alex Salmond was in attendance.

Osman works heavily in his local community of Govanhill and is also involved in Politics. He was nominated at the inaugaral Young Scottish Minority Ethnic Awards in the Future Political Force category against Anas Sarwar, Prospective Parliamentary Candidate (PPC) for Glasgow Central and son of Mohammed Sarwar MP. He is also currently shadowing Bashir Ahmad MSP, the first Muslim and ethnic minority Member of the Scottish Parliament.

He is also Vice-chair of the Active Life Club, an organisation set up to empower young in Govanhill and beyond in sports and through personal development.

He is currently studying towards a degree in Microbiology at Glasgow University and resides within Govanhill in Glasgow, Scotland.

He also stood as a Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYP) for Cathcart and makes regular radio broadcasts through local radio stations.
