ΩΓΠ (Omega Gamma Pi) Fraternity Inc. is a national and multicultural fraternity founded at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Omega Gamma Pi was founded on January 12, 2007 and became a part of the University of Michigan's Multicultural Greek Council. Since its beginning in 2007, the fraternity has continued to operate on the traditions and rituals it was founded on and also demonstrate involvement with Greek life, the University of Michigan, and the community beyond the campus. History The idea for a fraternity representing the shared ideals of "Opportunity", "Generosity", and "Prestige" was conceived in the Fall of 2006 by Nikhil Chaudhri, Abhinav Chordia, Zoheb Hajiyani, Anupam Kathpalia, Riyaz Maredia, Zoha Mohammed, Fayaz Momin, Ram Narayan, Niranjan Ramadas, Ashwin Ramnath, Rahil Roopani, and Atishay Sinha. The fraternity they formed stood for their shared ideals of "Opportunity", "Generosity", and "Prestige." On January 12, 2007, the first constitution of Omega Gamma Pi was chartered and eventually by March 28, 2007, the organization officially became part of Greek Life at the University of Michigan, joining the Multicultural Greek Council. Current Organization and Initiatives Since its beginning in 2007, Omega Gamma Pi has initiated a new "class" each Fall and Winter academic term, of new members into the brotherhood. Each new class is labeled by every successive letter in the Greek alphabet. Currently Omega Gamma Pi has gone through the Alpha - Kappa classes and is continuing to grow. The brothers weekly meet at chapter, in order to discuss current goals, involvement, and concerns as well as the various ways to implement them. Executive Board The executive board of Omega Gamma Pi allows fellow brothers to assume leadership roles within the fraternity and have a larger impact on the fraternity's decisions. The executive board is chosen through an election process where each candidate delivers a small speech followed by questions from the general body. The available positions on the executive board are: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Community Service Chair, Recruitment Coordinator, Public Relations Chair, Internal Affairs, Secretary, Historian, Fundraising Chair, and Alumni Relations. Due to the limited space of the executive board, Omega Gamma Pi also has several subcommittees determined on a termly basis based on the fraternity's goals. These subcommittees are usually under the discretion of the respective executive board member for whom the subcommittee is intended to assist. Members within the subcommittee include both executive board as well as non executive board members to help facilitate leadership and involvement for all active members. Big Brother - Little Brother Program Omega Gamma Pi offers opportunities for its older members to connect with the younger ones through its Big Brother - Little Brother Program. A new member usually has one or two "big brothers" who help guide the new member in areas such as education, on campus involvement, and giving back to the community. Big brothers and little brothers are matched based on similar interests and collegiate/professional outlooks. The program's purpose is to provide a way for younger members to seek advice from well experienced members and eventually be able to do the same for forthcoming new members. Philanthropy Over the years, Omega Gamma Pi has continued to serve the community and host various fundraisers to promote and make donations towards global causes. Omega Gamma Pi is a non- profit organization and has worked with other groups and institutions to promote awareness for issues such as global poverty development, cardiovascular disease, and students with severe cognitive impairments.
