Mu Sigma Chi (ΣΧ) is the Denison University chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Mu was established in 1868 as the twentieth chapter of the national fraternity which began at Miami University (Ohio). The Mu chapter takes pride in it's rich 162 year tradition and is deeply devoted to the rituals of Sigma Chi and preserving the fraternity's esteemed reputation. History, Basic Information, and the House Mu was founded on March 2, 1868 as Denison University's first fraternity. The chapter is a member of the Southern Ohio Province of the National Fraternity as well as a member of the Miami Triad with Beta Theta Pi and Phi Delta Theta, all of which were first founded at Miami University (Ohio). The Mu chapter is a member of Denison's Interfraternity Council (IFC) and one of seven fraternities at Denison University. Denison's other fraternities are Beta Theta Pi, Delta Chi, Kappa Sigma, Lambda Chi Alpha, Phi Delta Theta, Sigma Phi Epsilon. Construction of the Mu chapter house was completed in June of 1931 and is located at 1 Fraternity Row on Denison's campus in Granville, Ohio. Members of the chapter resided in the house from 1931 until the early 1990s when the Denison administration banned fraternities from living in their on campus houses. The house currently functions as a meeting place for Mu Sigma Chis as well as an office building for members of the Denison faculty. The house is also a nationally recognized landmark. Involvement on Campus and Philanthropy The Mu chapter of Sigma Chi is one of Denison's most visible fraternities. Brothers of the chapter actively represent Sigma Chi in Denison's Campus Governance Association, the Denison Hilltoppers Male Accapella Group, Intercollegiate and Intramural Sports, and many other campus organizations. Mu, like all other chapters of Sigma Chi, participates in Derby Days, an annual week long event of fundraising typically devoted to raising money for "The Children's Miracle Network." The week consists of fun and competition among the campus's sororities. In 2010, Derby Days will take place from April 5th through April 9th. The brothers of Mu also proudly take part in other Greek organization's philanthropic events such as Delta Gamma's Anchor Splash, Delta Chi's Rock Beats Cancer, and Beta Theta Pi's King of the Wing Competition.
