Greek Life at the University of North Texas

The University of North Texas in Denton, Texas is home to one of the fastest growing Greek systems in the United States. Greek Life at the University of North Texas originated in the early 1900s. However, in 1952 Sigma Phi Epsilon chartered its Texas Beta Chapter, becoming the first fraternity chapter to be established on campus and opening the door to other Inter/National fraternities and sororities to be established at North Texas. As of December 2011, 38 Greek-letter organizations remain active at UNT. Of the 28,702 undergraduate students enrolled for the fall 2011 semester, roughly 4.49% are members of fraternities and sororities, totaling over 1,250 members in 14 Interfraternity Council chapters, 8 National Panhellenic Conference chapters, 8 National Pan-Hellenic Council chapters and 9 Multicultural Greek Council chapters.
