Omega Beta Iota, abbreviated “ΩΒΙ,” is the National Osteopathic Political Action Honor Society. It was founded in 2007 by the Student Osteopathic Medical Association to emphasize the importance of the work osteopathic medical students in the political system. Selection Induction into ΩΒΙ requires the completion of several requirements including: *State and local medical political activism *Participation in the Osteopathic Political Action Committee *Participation in the *Membership in the Grassroots Osteopathic Advocacy Link *Political Action Training *Participation in politics at the national level for at least two years *Nomination by a non-student member of the osteopathic profession Membership importance According to the American Osteopathic Association ΩΒΙ "provides a level of prestigious distinction as a reward for the political initiative and involvement of osteopathic medical students and professionals." Similar Organizations Sigma Sigma Phi, abbreviated "ΣΣΦ" or "SSP", is the national Honorary Service fraternity of osteopathic medicine Alpha Omega Alpha, abbreviated "AOA", is the counterpart honor society for MD medical students, residents, scientists and physicians in the United States.
