Old Pueblo Firefighters Association

Founding Father: Lee R Kauss

The Old Pueblo Firefighters Association (OPFFA) is a labor union representing firefighters employed full-time in fire suppression and related activities who work for the Rural Metro Fire Department in Pima County, AZ. The OPFFA was formed in 1999 and is not affiliated with the AFL-CIO in the United States. The OPFFA is one of the first unions of its kind, created by the firefighters for the firefighters. The OPFFA was formed out of necessity after initially being courted then rejected by the IAFF,whose members included firefighters from public departments in and around theTucson area. Members were told, after being rejected, that the IAFF has a strong stance against private fire department and could not process their applications. OPFFA members then organized out of necessity due to unfavorable working conditions and the need to create an organized voice. Currently the OPFFA has close to 180 due paying members.

The OPFFA is the recognized bargaining unit, representing the interest of the Rural Metro Firefighters that proudly serve the citizens of Pima County, AZ.

It is their intention to diligently pursue those issues and ideals that they feel will create a productive, prosperous, safe and career oriented working environment.

The OPFFA has the intention to raise the standard of fire service professionalism with regards to relationships with the public, the media and other professional organizations. Contrary to precedent, the OPFFA will discourage activity that would be deemed defamatory, discriminatory, or otherwise degrade another's affiliation or lack of affiliation with a particular organization. That being said, the OFPPA will be steadfast to assure that their portrayal amongst the public, at large will be fair and favorable. Henceforth, the OPFFA will demonstrate the highest degree of integrity, that of which the public expects from professional public servants.

The OPFFA has been active in fundraising efforts for various organizations including The Muscular Dystrophy Association, Tu Niditio, and many others.

The OPFFA is also currently active in the formation of Fire Districts in and around the Pima County area.

The current Executive Board of the OPFFA is:
