Olav Harald Ulstein

Olav Harald Ulstein (born 8 March 1963) is a Norwegian politician and autodidact artist.
Politics
Ulstein is the leader of the Sykkylven chapter of the Progress Party. In the period 2003-2007 he was the deputy mayor of Sykkylven during one of mayor Jan-Kåre Aurdal's (Christian Democratic Party) terms. In 2007 he had the majority of the votes, but an alliance between other parties, mainly the Christian democrats and the Labour Party, secured another term for Aurdal.
Ulstein is, amongst other things, a fierce opponent of the new high-voltage lines running up the Norwegian coast, arguing instead that sea-cables would be a better option causing less environmental disruption.
Art
In addition to being an accomplished painter, Ulstein runs Sykkylven Art Gallery alongside Trine Cruickshank. This serves a dual purpose as his studio and gallery, and also features other local artists.
Ulstein often chooses untraditional methods of framing his work, for instance mounting paintings on black glass surfaces.
