Note Records

Note Records was an Indianapolis-based record label of R'n'B, Doo Wop, jazz, rockabilly and rock 'n roll from the 1950s. It was owned by brothers Mel and Jerry Herman of Indianapolis. Attorney Sy Bagall is also listed as a director in the articles of incorporation, but he mainly handled legal work. Mel Herman was primarily responsible for production and Jerry Herman sales. Many Note masters were leased to Chess and King Records. Apparently all or most of the master session tapes were eventually sold to Chess Records, Chicago. Better known artists who recorded for Note were: The Students, The Counts, Jimmie Coe, Ronnie Haig, Rusty York, and The Monograms, among others.
