John D. Scott

John D. Scott is an American singer, songwriter and vocal coach. He has been teaching music since 1994 and performing since 1988. Scott’s main influences are gospel, pop, rock, and R&B.
Songwriter
Scott has written many songs including Make Light From Dark 1997 Clear Water Fountain and No One Else which appeared on the Connecting Voices Vocal Sampler 1997.
Vocal coach
Scott has been teaching voice instruction since 1994. He was the Music Director at First Covenant Church in Oakland, California from 1998 to 2007. He has taught students from varied backgrounds including gospel, choir, pop, rock, R&B, and Rap. His innovative techniques include Voice Yoga, which he founded in 2007. His students include the award winning Jamie Lynn Noon, successful international touring artist Michael Franti of Spearhead, local San Francisco rocker Jay Bowman, Hiphop singer Jamie T, R&B artist Jumoke Hill, Jazz singer Sean Tabor, and the R&B quartet of female vocalists One Vo1ce.
Performer
Since 1993 Scott has been regularly performing both live and in studio. His credits include singing on releases by Jay Bowman, Jason Kadlec, and Barrie Hart. Scott has performed live at numerous venues including a performance in 2004 at the Bear Fruit 2 - Grow our Children benefit concert in San Francisco, which was later released on CD, and a 2007 performance at the sold out Soul Fo’ Show concert at the Vessel in San Francisco.
Entrepreneur
Scott is the founder of JDS Voice Studio. He has taught at the studio along with other instructors since 1994. Scott has studio locations in San Francisco and Alameda, California. Scott also founded ModernVocalist.com where students can study his techniques through a series of online video exercises.
Scientist
Scott first cloned PKI and has studied PKA anchoring for two decades. He is currently a Howard Hughes Medical Institutes Senior Investigator located at the University of Washington, Department of Pharmacology, Seattle WA.
