Norzie Pak Wan Chek is a senior broadcast journalist and host for Malaysia’s TV3 magazine program, Majalah 3 (Magazine 3). TV3 is the first private television station and the most-watched station in the country. Majalah 3 is the first semi-documentary type program produced by the station and garners 3-to-4 million viewers with its coverage on various issues including the environment, science and technology as well as humanitarian issues. As a journalist and host, she gathers report materials, is responsible for shooting her own story with a television crew, and edits her own visuals. She is also responsible for managing the overall editorial production of the program, which is conducted in the Malay language. Her reports include the Palestinian refugee situation in Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. She and her Majalah 3 team were also one of the first groups of journalists in Malaysia to fly to Aceh, Indonesia, to report on the post-tsunami situation. Prior to joining the magazine and documentary unit at TV3, she served as an assistant producer, broadcast journalist and news anchor for the news department at another local TV station, ntv7. She also reported for ntv7’s investigative magazine program, Edisi Siasat. The program is the first in the country to serve as a check-and-balance to government agencies and activities, and it champions the voice of the people. She was named Best TV Journalist by the Ministry of Defence, Malaysia, in 2003 for her report on the country’s NAVY Elite Force. Her special report on Muslims in the U.S. after 9/11, entitled Crescent Over America, was one of the final nominations for Best News/ Current Affairs Special category during the Asian Television Awards 2002. She holds a B.A. in English Literature with a minor in Comparative Religion at Acadia University, Nova Scotia, Canada.
