Northwest Airlines Flight 85 was a flight from Detroit International Airport, Detroit, Michigan to Narita International Airport, Tokyo, Japan, which experienced a lower rudder hardover during curise flight at FL350 (35,000 feet) at about 1740 Alaska daylight time. The flight was then diverted to Anchorage, Alaska. No injuries was reported. Flight Data Recorder Information Data from the flight data recorder shows an uncommanded 17.5 degree lower rudder deflection to the left, which increase to 32 degree as the plane is making preparation for landing. Investigation The NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) investigated this incident.
