Noorhaidi Hasan

Noorhaidi Hasan (born on 7 December 1971 in Amuntai, South Kalimantan province, Indonesia) is an Indonesian scholar of political Islam. His research interests include political Islam in contemporary Indonesia and other Muslim-populated countries in Southeast Asia.
Biography
Dr Noorhaidi (in Indonesia, people are usually called by their first name in the case they have more than one name) completed his BA in Islamic law in 1994 at the State Islamic University (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. He was then appointed as teacher at the same university. In 1997 he had the opportunity to continue his graduate studies in the Netherlands thanks to scholarships provided by different institutions from this country. He obtained his MA from Leiden University in 1999, his MPhil from the International Institute for the Study of Islam in the Modern World in 2000, and his PhD from Utrecht University in 2005.
Dr Noorhaidi has taught political Islam at Sunan Kalijaga and at the Jakarta Islamic State University Syarif Hidayatullah.
